Your Language and Session Languages explained

"Your Language" determines translation direction
The language you set as "Your Language" becomes the output target. Your peer's speech is translated into this language for display and text-to-speech.

"Session Languages" — select up to 3 languages as pills/chips
Pre-select the languages your participants may speak — for optimal translation accuracy. (Up to 3 languages.)

A red alert badge displays: "⚠️ Maximum 3 languages can be selected". This limit ensures translation precision. You cannot exceed 3 languages per session.

🎯 Single-Language Mode (one participant language, different from yours)
Example: You = Japanese, participant = English only.
Fast response (~1-2s). Translates the other side's speech into your language. Ideal for 1-on-1 conversations.
🌐 Polyglot Mode (two or more participant languages)
Automatically detects language switches within a single meeting and routes each utterance to the optimal target (code-switching support). Best for multinational meetings.

Your language = Japanese, participants = Japanese + English:
・You speak Japanese → translated to English (delivered to others)
・Participant speaks English → translated to Japanese (so you understand) ※ Only when "your language" is one of the participant languages, your own speech is translated to the lingua franca (English preferred).
📝 Minutes Mode (your language = single participant language)
Example: You = Japanese, participant = Japanese only. Translations are not shown — only the cleaned-up original text is recorded. Hesitations and recognition artifacts are polished into readable minutes. Ideal for internal meeting transcription.

The mode turns on automatically and "🎧 Simultaneous mode: ON" appears in the control bar. The meeting audio and the translated voice play from this PC (the meeting tab also plays its own sound; if you hear it twice, see step 3)

If you hear the meeting twice, mute the shared meeting tab
Right-click the meeting tab and choose "Mute site" (Edge: "Mute tab"). The meeting still plays through Overtone and translation continues. Instead of muting, you can press "🎧 Stop the tab sound and hear it only through Overtone" in the control bar and choose the same tab again (the button changes to "🎧 Playing only through Overtone"; if you cancel, the current share continues)
With window or full-screen sharing (or in an unsupported browser), the mode does not turn on and you listen on the Companion View as before. If you did not share the audio, you are asked to share again with audio.
AUDIO DEVICES
Simultaneous interpretation mode (automatic with tab sharing)
Open the meeting in a browser tab, share that tab and turn on "Also share tab audio" - the mode turns on automatically and the meeting audio and translations play from this PC (the meeting is lowered while a translation plays). Turn OFF if others may see your screen (screen sharing / in-person) — default ON
Emotion analysis of the other party is private information for your eyes only. This single toggle turns every emotion-related display ON / OFF at once. The 🔒 (shown) / 🔓 (hidden — safe to share) icon in the translation-screen header tells you the current state. When ON, shown on PC: Conversation Mood Meter / Signal alerts / Emotion Motion (subtle subtitle movement) * The emotion colour bar is always shown * The same setting also applies to Companion View * Motion turns off automatically when the OS "reduce motion" setting is ON * AI Meeting Coach is available on the phone (Companion View) only — Premium early-access beta (also usable during the trial)

Once registered, "🎤 My Voice" becomes selectable in Companion View on your phone, and translations play back in your own voice. Without registration, choose from the standard voices (Auto / Male / Female).

Choose one of three themes for the whole translation screen. Your choice applies to the entire PC translation screen (background, bubbles, header, Live Digest) and syncs automatically to Companion View.

Speed is applied when the voice is generated, so a faster speed does not raise the pitch. The third option (1.3x / 1.5x) follows the voice you have selected. A speed you change is saved on the PC and used next time (Companion View starts from the initial value each time).
💡 Plan-change behavior: Upgrading to Premium unlocks Premium Voice instantly. Moving from Premium to another plan (including the automatic switch to Starter when the trial ends) hides Premium Voice, but Standard Voice and My Voice keep working and your My Voice data is preserved.

Returns to the setup screen after a confirmation dialog, so a stray tap never ends your session.

Subtitles stream in: once an utterance is finalized, its translation starts flowing into the bubble without waiting for the full text — so you can start reading long remarks from the very first words.

Before sharing or projecting your screen: the mood meter and its signals are meant for your eyes only. Turn "🔒 Emotion Visibility" OFF in settings before showing your screen to others — the header switches to 🔓 and all emotion displays are hidden.

The PDFs you tick ("Full Transcript PDF" / "AI Summary PDF") are created. If you press "Skip" (or the minutes screen does not appear because there were fewer than 2 utterances), no email is sent

When the minutes are ready, one email is sent automatically
It goes only to the email address you are signed in with (it cannot be sent to anyone else). The subject is "[Overtone] Minutes — Overtone Meeting Minutes (date)" and the PDFs are attached. The email is in Japanese if your language is Japanese, otherwise in English

To send it again, press "✉️ Email them again" on the completion screen
If automatic sending is off, the button reads "✉️ Get them by email" and sends only when pressed. If you press "Close" while it is sending, the screen waits until the email is sent (up to 15 seconds). On a smartphone this button is shown at the top

To stop automatic sending
On the setup screen, open "⚙ Advanced Settings" → "📧 Minutes by email" and turn "Email me the minutes when they are generated" OFF (it is ON by default). The setting is saved in this browser, so set it separately on each PC or browser
If the email does not arrive or cannot be sent
Up to 10 emails can be sent per hour. If the PDFs are too large (over 11 MB each or 25 MB in total) they cannot be attached — save them with the buttons on the completion screen instead. If the connection drops, sending is retried automatically up to 2 times (while the screen is hidden it waits, and sends once the screen is shown again). Sending the same minutes again within 10 minutes does not deliver a second email.

What is sent, what is kept
Only still images of the detected document region are sent; participants’ camera video is never sent. Images are discarded after the summary is generated and are not stored on our servers (for the processing provider’s retention see Privacy Policy 1-5). Documents marked confidential are kept out of the minutes. Figures are read from the document, so verify important numbers against the original.
AI Meeting Coach (beta, on the smartphone Companion View)
Suggests possible next moves as cards, based on what the other side said and how the mood is shifting. Open the “AI Meeting Coach” drawer at the bottom of Companion View, pick the goal of the conversation (💰 Negotiate / 🙇 Apologise / ❓ Ask …) and press “Help me”; two cards are generated on the spot. PC translations sync to your device instantly. Audio (TTS) is OFF by default — toggle playback with the 🎧 Their (inbound) / 📡 My (outbound) ON/OFF buttons on Companion View (the PC itself plays no audio).

Status banner — version + voice mode + remaining time
Current voice mode in the center (e.g. ✓ Premium voice (auto)). Remaining time is gray, turning yellow under 1 hour and red under 30 minutes.

Mood Meter (Cautious ⇔ Positive)
Shows the overall mood of the conversation on a bar. When the flow shifts, a "↘ Turning cautious" / "↗ Turning positive" signal appears at the top right. Hidden when "🔒 Emotion Visibility" is OFF in the PC settings (the same setting applies here).

Subtitle area
Their speech is left-aligned (language-colored border + speaker label), your speech is a right-aligned green bubble, and in-progress recognition shows in amber. Translations stream in before the sentence is final.
Select "📋 Digest" in the bottom tabs to see the same content as the PC's Live Digest — Summary / To-Do / Timeline tabs plus "💬 Current topic" and "✅ Decisions" cards — refreshed about every minute. Switch to "🎵 Playlist" to open the Talk Playlist (translation queue). Full usage is explained on the next page.

⚠️ Watch out for echo: If the phone volume is too high or too close to the PC mic, the played audio can be re-captured and re-translated (echo). Overtone automatically suppresses re-capture of its own playback, but keep the volume at the minimum level the other party can hear. If the other party's voice plays through your PC speakers, we recommend headphones.
💡 Combine with Talk Playlist: Register frequent phrases in advance and deliver them to the other party with one tap — handy for greetings and routine announcements.

Shared Viewer lets you share your live translation screen with other meeting participants in real time.
Viewers need no app install or login — they simply open a URL in any browser to see translation text.
Available on all plans (concurrent viewers: Free/Trial 1, Starter 3, Standard 10, Premium 20).
How to Use

Just sign in from your mobile browser at the same URL. Mobile browsers cannot screen-share, so Face-to-Face Mode is selected automatically. On Launch, Companion View opens full-screen as your translation screen (see next page).

Tap to open/close. Set the "🔊 Translated-audio voice" and speed, the "🗣 Phrases & Coach voice", and the "Show AI Meeting Coach" switch in one place (🎤 My Voice selectable too — it is tied to your account, so it works from any device).

🔊 Playback badge
When "🎧 Listen with earphones" is OFF, a purple badge overlays the status banner while translated audio is playing and speech during playback is not recognized. The mic resumes automatically when playback ends — the device alternates between its one mic and speaker. When it is ON, no badge appears and the mic keeps picking up the other person during playback.

⏹ End
Tap the red "⏹ End" button at the top right to end translation and proceed to minutes creation.

📋 Digest tab / ✨ Coach tab
Use the bottom tabs to switch between "📋 Digest" (current topic, decisions, to-dos, timeline) and "🎵 Playlist". The "✨ Coach" tab appears once "Show AI Meeting Coach" is turned ON inside ⚙️ (Premium early-access beta; also usable during the trial).
💡 In web-meeting mode, Companion View has two buttons (🎧 Their (inbound) / 📡 My (outbound)); in Face-to-Face Mode they are unified into a single "🔊 Translated audio" toggle.

画面共有時に「音声を共有」をONにしたか確認してください。
また、左上の LIVE ピルが緑の [● LIVE] になっているか確認してください。灰色 [CONNECTING] のまま進まない・橙 [RECONNECT] が続く場合は接続に問題があります。「戻る」→再度「起動」で再接続できます。When using Screen Share, make sure "Share audio" is enabled in the browser dialog.
Also check that the LIVE pill in the top-left shows green [● LIVE]. If it stays gray [CONNECTING] or amber [RECONNECT], the connection is unstable — click "Back" then "Start" again to reconnect.

A quieter environment improves recognition accuracy. Speaking in shorter sentences also helps improve translation quality.
🌐 1つの会議で複数言語を使えますか？🌐 Can I mix multiple languages in one meeting?
はい。参加者の言語を 2 つ以上選択すると自動的に「多言語モード」になり、会議中に英語→中国語→日本語のように切り替わっても自動で判別して翻訳します（コードスイッチング対応）。事前に言語を切り替える操作は不要です。Yes. Select 2 or more participant languages and Polyglot Mode is auto-enabled. The app detects language switches within a single meeting (e.g. English → Chinese → Japanese) and translates each utterance correctly. No manual switching needed.

If your language matches the participant language (e.g. both Japanese), translation is unnecessary so the app records only the cleaned-up original text. This is ideal for internal meeting minutes. To enable translation, add a participant language different from yours.

音声認識は人間の発音を 100% 正確に判別できないため、たまに似た音の他言語として認識されることがあります（特に短い相づちや音響的にあいまいな区間）。参加者の言語に英語を含めると判別精度が改善します。それでも誤認識が頻発する場合は、マイク音量や会議音声のクリアさを確認してください。Speech recognition is not 100% accurate and may occasionally identify English as a phonetically similar language (especially short utterances or acoustically ambiguous regions). Including English in the participant language list improves detection. If misidentification persists, check microphone volume and audio clarity.
短時間に大量の発言が連続すると、サービスの利用上限に達して翻訳が一時的に遅くなる場合があります。その場合は自動的に代替経路に切り替わるため、翻訳自体は継続します。連続して頻発する場合は会議を一度終了して再開してください。If many utterances occur in rapid succession, the translation service may temporarily slow down due to rate limits. The app automatically switches to a fallback route so translation continues. If it persists, end the meeting and restart.

Live Digest (all plans, including the trial) automatically gathers decisions, to-dos and a topic timeline into one panel during the meeting — "Current topic" on the Summary tab, and decisions plus to-dos (latest 3, expandable) on the Decisions・ToDo tab — and alerts you at the top of the screen the moment a question or decision is directed at you. It refreshes about every minute on every plan (host-only view, also synced to the "📋 Digest" tab in Companion View).

Conversations are processed on the fly and not stored on our servers (zero-data-retention design). Minutes exist only on your side, and only if you download them or receive them by email.

PC の Chrome / Edge 最新版を推奨します。インストールは不要で、ブラウザだけで動作します。マイクは USB / 有線ヘッドセットを推奨します。Companion View はスマートフォン / タブレットの標準ブラウザで動作します。また、スマートフォン / タブレットから直接ログインして、対面モードで利用することもできます（STEP 10 参照）。Latest Chrome / Edge on PC is recommended. No installation — everything runs in the browser. A USB or wired headset microphone is recommended. Companion View runs in the standard browser of your smartphone or tablet. You can also sign in directly from a smartphone / tablet and use Face-to-Face Mode (see STEP 10).
💳 支払い方法と解約について💳 Payment methods and cancellation
クレジットカード決済（Visa / Mastercard / American Express）です。カード情報が Overtone のサーバーに保存されることはありません。解約はいつでも可能です（無料体験中も同じ手順）: ① アプリ画面上部の「管理」を押す → ② お支払い管理ページが開く → ③ 「プランをキャンセル」を選ぶ。解約後も支払い済みの請求期間の末日まではご利用いただけます（日割りの返金はありません）。無料体験中に解約した場合、体験終了後の課金は発生しません。Credit card (Visa / Mastercard / American Express). Your card details are never stored on Overtone's servers. You can cancel anytime, including during the free trial: (1) press Manage at the top of the app → (2) the billing portal opens → (3) choose Cancel plan. Access continues until the end of the paid billing period (no prorated refunds). Cancelling during the trial means you will not be charged when it ends.

Speakers are separated automatically and shown as SPEAKER-1, SPEAKER-2, … Select "🎙 Face-to-face" under "① Meeting Audio Capture Source" on the setup screen. Great for in-person talks, meeting-room minutes and interpreting on business trips (see STEP 10).

Sign in from your smartphone / tablet browser and Face-to-Face Mode is selected automatically (mobile browsers cannot screen-share). On Launch, Companion View opens full-screen as your translation screen, and the 🔊 translated-audio toggle plays translations of everyone's speech aloud. 🎤 My Voice is tied to your account, so it works from any device.
🔊 翻訳音声の再生中に話すとどうなりますか？🔊 What if someone speaks while translated audio is playing?
「🎧 イヤホンで聞く」が OFF のときは、再生中はマイクが一時停止するため、その間の発言は認識されません。画面上部に「🔊 翻訳音声を再生中 — マイクは一時停止しています」と表示され、再生が終わると自動でマイクが復帰します。1 台のマイクとスピーカーを交互に使うための仕様です。再生と重なった大事な発言は、再生終了後にもう一度話してもらってください。「🎧 イヤホンで聞く」を ON にすると、再生中もマイクが止まらず、その間の発言も認識されます (スマートフォン本体のマイク + イヤホンで使います)。When "🎧 Listen with earphones" is OFF, the microphone pauses during playback, so speech during that time is not recognized. A badge — "🔊 Playing translated audio — mic paused" — appears at the top, and the mic resumes automatically when playback ends. This is by design: the device alternates between its one mic and speaker. Ask the speaker to repeat anything important that overlapped playback. With "🎧 Listen with earphones" ON, the mic does not pause and speech during playback is recognized too (use the phone's own mic with earphones).
